Women and weights

If you want to lose weight successfully, then you need to build muscle. What's the best way to do it, lifting weights. If you want attractive curves and definition then you need to lift weights, preferably heavy ones. I'm not talking about building bulk, I'm talking about building slender, attractive, and tone muscles.

Don't Be Afraid

Most women are afraid of using weights for fear of ending up too muscular. Building muscle has never been easy, not even for men. Unless your taking steroids or synthetic growth hormones, you will need to lift heavy weights for many years before you get "too big". So don't worry about getting too big, it's not going to happen.

Defined and Toned

How well defined and toned you look depends on how much body fat you carry. The less body fat you carry, the more definined and sexier your muscles will look. Remember, less body fat equals skin that is more transparent to the eye.

Muscle Burns Energy

Muscle uses energy to sustain itself, and one of the fuels it uses is body fat. Muscle is an active tissue which blasts your metabolism and increases fat burning even when you rest. The more muscle you have the more fat you will burn in your daily activities. Build 1 lb of muscle and burn approximately 500 extra calories a week.

Weight Training and Cardio

Building muscle is achieved when you use weights or any type of heavy resistance training. If you combine weight lifting with aerobic or any activity that makes you "mildly" out of breath, such as walking, cycling or swimming, you will get results dramatically quicker than if you just did weights. In fact, studies show that a routine that favors cardio like distance running can burn up muscle tissue even if your protien intake is high. So if your plan is to build muscle, you might want to cut back your cardio workouts to have a more balanced routine, try it.

The Good News

You only need to use weights a few times a week, leaving a day in between to rest. When you work your muscles, they break down into micro tears and need about 24 hours rest to allow the repair process to take place. Unless you have pre-existing injuries, use a heavy enough weight that will tire your muscles after about 8 to 10 repetitions as this will build muscle faster.

So make sure you pick up those weights today ladies, you'll be amazed at the results.
